INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR, PART TIME
The Ness Brand Studio is helping a client search for a reliable, detail oriented Part Time Bookkeeper to provide ongoing bookkeeping and trust accounting support.
This is a small, flexible role for an experienced bookkeeper who is comfortable working independently, understands the financial operations of a law office, and has specific experience with QuickBooks and Massachusetts attorney trust accounting requirements.
This opportunity is for you if:
You have professional bookkeeping experience, ideally within a law firm or professional services environment
You are highly organized and exceptionally detail oriented
You are comfortable working with QuickBooks and maintaining accurate financial records
You have a working knowledge of Massachusetts attorney trust accounting requirements, including IOLTA and client matter ledgers
You understand the importance of keeping client trust funds completely separate from firm operating funds
You have experience reconciling bank accounts and identifying discrepancies
You are comfortable working independently with minimal oversight
You are responsive, reliable and able to communicate clearly with a small professional office
You understand that confidentiality and discretion are essential when working with client financial information
You have an interest in establishing a consistent, ongoing working relationship rather than taking on a one time bookkeeping project
Bonus points if:
You have previous experience bookkeeping for a Massachusetts law firm
You have experience with real estate transactions, conveyancing or loan closings
You have experience maintaining or reconciling IOLTA or other attorney trust accounts
You are familiar with Massachusetts Rule of Professional Conduct 1.15
You have experience working with closing statements, escrow funds or other real estate related financial records
You have experience identifying and resolving discrepancies between QuickBooks, bank statements and client matter ledgers
What you’ll be doing:
Maintaining accurate bookkeeping records in QuickBooks for an experienced attorney
Reconciling operating and trust accounts
Maintaining accurate records related to client trust funds
Reviewing client matter ledgers and identifying discrepancies or unusual activity
Assisting with required trust account reconciliations
Recording deposits, disbursements and other financial transactions accurately and promptly
Reviewing transactions associated with real estate and loan closings
Ensuring bookkeeping records remain organized and current
Communicating any discrepancies, missing documentation or questions to the attorney promptly
Providing general bookkeeping support as needed
Maintaining strict confidentiality regarding client, transaction and financial information
Requirements:
Previous professional bookkeeping experience
Strong proficiency with QuickBooks
Demonstrated understanding of Massachusetts attorney trust accounting requirements
Experience with bank reconciliations
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
Strong organizational and time management skills
Ability to work independently and meet agreed upon deadlines
Excellent communication and professionalism
High level of discretion when handling confidential financial and client information
This is an approximately 10 hour per month position, with some variation depending on transaction volume and the needs of the office. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with a flexible monthly schedule and interested in a long term working relationship. Compensation will be based on experience and the scope of the role.
